Modified or Netta Umpiring Guidelines
Netball Rules & Regulations*************************
The UMPIRE EXAM SECTION 1 is NOW Online
It is useful for club members, parents, coaches, players and umpires. Only the participant will know the results if she/he doesn’t pass. If you don’t pass the first time, you should learn the rules and repeat the exam.
You will be able to print a certificate if you obtain 70% or over.
If you do not choose a response for a question, it will be marked as incorrect.
If you pass the exam you will be provided with your score and information about what questions you got correct / incorrect.
If you fail you will not receive a score or information of what questions you got correct / incorrect (to encourage you to go back and look at the rule book!!!)

Theory Marks are current for 5 years then need to be updated.

ALL rep players must have current pass.

Attributes of a Good Umpire
Concentration - Remain focused for the entire game and not be distracted by friends or spectators. Awareness when play is the other umpire's half.
Communication - Whistle - Voice - Hand Signals
Confidence - Presentation as an Umpire i.e. correct attire, your stance, clear instructions and loud whistle.
Consistency - Application of the rules eg obstruction, contact, 3 seconds.

Commonsense & Approachability - Maintain a pleasant manner throughout the game.
Remember to umpire in the spirit of the game.
Safety for all. Be pleasant and considerate.

JUMP - Junior Umpire Development Programme
RED       BLUE     WHITE

RED AWARD - Education, Knowledge
Instructor led Theory Education -  on the basics of umpiring. At the end of the education will be an open-book assessment with a pass mark of 70%.
Minimum age - turning 12 years of age that year.

BLUE AWARD - Practical Education, Confidence & Skill Building
Prior requisites - A minimum pass of 70% in the Red Award.
Participants need to have displayed an aptitude for umpiring during their Red Award Program. Minimum of 4-6 games at either training or gala days with a mentor.
Blue Award is awarded once the participant is considered to be competent enough to start umpiring Junior Comnpetiton games.

WHITE AWARD   - Skill Building
Minimum age - turning 13 years of age
Successful completion of Blue Award.
Minimum of four Competition games with a mentor.
No time limit once this level is reached. Developing umpires reamin at this level until they are competent to umpire a Junior A grade game.

Green Badge Minimum age - turning 13 years of age. Upon achievement, a Green level umpire can umpire Junior A Grade games.
Gold Badge No minimum age. Current Section 1 Theory Pass. Umpiring Senior games at competent level.
Upon achievement, a Gold level umpire can umpire up to A2 grade games.
National Badge     Umpires are selected by BHSNA Umpires' Committee.
Current Section 1 Theory Pass.
Level 1 Umpires' Accreditation.

TALENT IDENTIFIED UMPIRES
Once identified, these umpires are offered;
Representative Carnival attendance,
Specialised coaching and mentoring throughout the season.

WHAT IS AN UMPIRING MENTOR?
A mentor/buddy is someone who:
Has the maturity to support our junior umpires (JUMPS)
Has the knowledge of "All LAustralia Netball Rules"
Is willing to give an hour of their time on Saturday, either weekly, fornightly, or occasionally to assist in the development of our junior umpires.

NETTA UMPIRING
Netta games are umpired using modified rules. This enables the players to learn the rules and how to play the game.
Netta is for Under 7 years, 8 years and 9 years.
Netta umpiring is a mixture of the rules together with coaching.

Level1 Accreditation Course @ BHSNA Next course JUNE 2011
Discover what the role of the umpire is and learn the skills required to be a competent umpire by attending a Level 1 Accreditation [cost $35 and runs for 4 hours]. This course is a prerequisite for all national badge candidates. All Australia Netball Association [AANA] Certificate is gained upon completion. Attendance for the whole period of 4 hours is mandatory.

Introductory Level Officiating General Principles Course
The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) and Department of Sport & Recreation is pleased to announce that the online Introductory Level Officiating General Principles course is now available on the link (picture) below

The course is aimed at beginner level officials, and covers three modules of training; Self Management, Managing the Competition Environment and People Management. The course takes approximately four hours to complete, and there is assessment included within the course. The online course is available free of charge to Australian officials.
ALL candidates for National C will have to complete the above course.
